The Clinical Campus

The Clinical Campus of Sechenov University was founded in 1987 and is recognized as one of the world’s best. It is not only an inimitable architectural center and a famous historical landmark, but also a unique center where future doctors study, physicians continue medical education, scientists carry out research, the most difficult patients receive specialized high-tech medical care.

Establishment of the Clinical Campus is a remarkable milestone of the Russian medicine and medical education. At the edge of the 19th century for the purpose of the University hospitals construction the State Duma allotted to the University a territory of 40 000 sq. fathom (about 85344 sq. m.) on Devichye Pole.

First hospitals (Psychiatry, and Obstetrics and Gynecology) were built from merchants’ donations. Later on within five next years the University obtained magnificent buildings of thirteen hospitals and two institutes.

For more than a century already the Clinical Campus on Devichye Pole has been the basis for research and education, as well as a multidisciplinary center of high quality medical care.

Today the Clinical Center comprises of 19 world-known diversified University hospitals (over 3,000 beds), as well as the Clinical Diagnostic Center, and the Center of Restorative Medicine and Rehabilitation. Medical units of the University are able to provide service to about 50,000 inpatients and over 300,000 outpatients annually.
