UK-Russia Healthcare & Life Sciences Forum

Sechenov University together with the Department of International Trade of the British Embassy in Russia held UK-Russia Healthcare & Life Sciences Forum. The Forum was a part of the official program of the UK-Russia Year of Science and Education 2017. The concept of the Forum emerged as a result of successful collaborations between Russian and British partners in the exchange of best practices in healthcare reform, pharmaceuticals, digital medicine, science and education. The Forum aimed to continue a successful dialogue between our countries in Biotechnology and Medicine, bringing together industry leaders from both countries, key institutions of public health in the UK, representatives of regulatory bodies and relevant Russian Ministries. The program of the Forum consisted of three sessions. The plenary session on Reforming Medical Education and Creation of the Life Sciences Ecosystem was delivered by President of the British Medical Association Prof. Sir John Temple, National Clinical Lead for Innovation at NHS England Prof. Tony Young, Head, Business & Innovation Group, UCL Translational Research Office: “Translating UCL science” Dr. Maryam Atakhorrami, as well as by leading Russian specialists. The second session was focused on the problems of treatment and prevention of diabetes and infectious diseases, including HIV. The last session included discussion of approaches to pricing, reimbursement and health technology assessment. It was delivered by Executive Director, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), Prof. Carole Longson and Head of Inspectorate, Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) Mark Birse.
