On March 1-2, 2019 Sechenov University hosted the first UK-Russia Young Medics Conference of the UK-Russia Young Medics Association.

The Association was created last year due to the initiative of the Sechenov University’s rector Prof. Petr V. Glybochko and Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Russia Dr. Laurie Bristow CMG. Among the main goals of the Association is development of scientific and educational links in Biomedicine between students, doctors and young scientists of both countries.

"Just about a year ago we discussed initiative of creation the Association between our students and students of the Cambridge University. During this year we have managed to promote this project. We hosted the UK-Russia Summer School in Urology and Coloproctology attended by both young professionals of Russia and the UK. Last year only a few Russian universities joined the Association, and now representatives of 25 Russian universities took part in the conference. We plan to discuss development of the Association. It is our pleasure that representatives of the top-6 UK medical schools are engaged in building bridges between young medics of the UK and Russia. I am also pleased to express my gratitude to the British Embassy for the awarded grant in 2018. On behalf of the Sechenov University’s rector I wish everyone fruitful work and effective discussions during the conference,"- welcomes the participants Prof. Andrey A. Svistunov, the First Vice-rector of Sechenov University.

The Conference became a platform for exchange of best scientific and educational practices. The Biomedical Park is a key element in transformation of Sechenov University into an international research center in Biomedicine and Life Sciences.

Prof. Andrey A. Svistunov from the Russian side, Mr. John Lindfield (Director, UK Trade & Investment in Russia), Professor Steve Jones (Faculty of Medical Sciences, Newcastle University) from the Britain side signed a statement of interest in joint development of medical science.

"Our goal is to establish connections between the medical communities. We hope that the Russian and the UK universities will focus their efforts in medicine. We are pleased to support the UK-Russia Association and to make it work successfully. I hope that this year we will be able to get financial assistance for further development of the project."

The conference programme included panel discussions and round tables devoted to the exchange of best scientific and educational practices between the two countries, as well as sessions of oral and poster presentations of students and young scientists.

The conference was attended by more than 350 students and young scientists engaged in biomedical research (bioengineering, bioinformatics, biophysics, biochemistry, etc.).

Participation in the UK-Russia Young Medics Conference 2019 became a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the top Russian and UK scientists. During the conference, each participant received an assessment of their research project from experts from the top universities and learned about the possibilities to participate in the projects of the UK-Russia Young Medics Association.
