Sechenov University tops RAEX medicine ranking

Sechenov University tops RAEX medicine ranking

The RAEX Rating Review agency has published its assessment of Russia’s best universities across 29 subject areas.

In the comprehensive list of 20 best medical universities, Sechenov University is on the 1st place, with the total of 100.00 points. The 2nd position, with 84.58 points, belongs to Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, and the 3rd place has been given to Lomonosov Moscow State University, with 80.31 points.

The subject rankings are compiled with attention to the “three university missions” — education, scientific work, and contribution to society.

In a statement published on its website, the RAEX agency says that the strength of medical education in Russia lies in the high availability of staff and considerable financial resources. Universities that teach medicine have 43% more funding per student — and 45% more employees — than an average university.

The RAEX agency also notes that medical universities produce almost four times more PhDs than an average university. And medical universities have the highest number of students — over 260,000.

The rankings are based on the data from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation; bibliometric data providers Clarivate Analytics and Scopus; organisers of the national student competition “I Am a Professional”; the media monitoring and analysis system SCAN-Interfax; aggregators of online courses; the web analytics platform Alexa; and social media. At the same time, expert opinions are not collected to compile the rankings.
