UK-Russia Summer School in Innovative Surgery: Enrolment is open now!

Sechenov University's Fronshtein Urology Clinic hosted a coordination meeting dedicated to the UK-Russia Summer School in Innovative Surgery, which will be held in June, 2018. Organization of the international Summer School became possible due to success of Cambridge-Sechenov Summer School in Urologic Oncology & Urogenital Reconstructive Surgery in 2017. This year the Summer School will be significantly transformed. For instance, it will double the number of participants, significantly broaden its practical part and present Coloproctology Course.

Prof. Petr Tsarkov, director of the Clinic of Coloproctology and Minimally Invasive Surgery, told about skills that the participants will gain within the Coloproctology Course. During the course the students will be able to study up-to-date information regarding pathogenesis, screening, early diagnosis, methods of treatment Colorectal Cancer; and to expand knowledge of Coloproctology and Pelvic Surgery Anatomy. Moreover, the School participants will be able to supervise robotic and laparoscopic rectal resection, and visit the 3D- surgery room. All participants will be able to master the surgical technique of intestinal suture assisted by the leading specialists of the Clinic. Before the School closure, the students will be able to carry out laparoscopic resection of the rectum using a trial model.

Prof. Eugeny Bezrukov, head of the Urology Department of the Clinic, told about the Urology Course of the Summer School. Within the Urology Course the participants will be albe to study modern approaches to diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, kidney cancer and urethral stricture disease. The students will also have an opportunity to study best practices in implementation of robotic prostatectomy, laparoscopic kidney resection and buccal urethroplasty. At the end of the School the attendees will have a unique opportunity to conduct laparoscopic nephrectomy and to gain such experience that is not available to all professional surgeons.

Mr. Nikita Suschentsev, senior tutor of the Sechenov University Research Career Center, made some closing remarks concerning the selection procedure for potential participants. It will consist of 2 stages: extra-mural stage and an oral interview in English. The main selection criteria will be not only the achievements in research and academic activities, but also the high level of spoken English, which is necessary to complete the program and communicate with the British colleagues.
