UK-Russia Summer School in Innovative Surgery will be officially opened on June 18, 2018!

Sechenov University will organize the opening ceremony of the UK-Russian Summer School in Innovative Surgery which starts on June 18, 2018. The school is supported by the British Embassy in Russia.  


Mr. John Lindfield, Advisor and Director for Trade and Investment, and Ms. Marina Sokolova, Senior adviser (Science & Innovation), as the representatives of the British Embassy in Russia will attend the event. It’s planned to sign the cooperation agreement between Sechenov University and the British Embassy in Russia during the opening ceremony. The Summer School marks the official start of the UK-Russian Association of junior doctors, which will become a platform for establishing professional contacts, developing and implementing joint projects in biomedical research and solving problems of global health. 




The establishment of the Association and launch of the Summer School became possible due to to the close cooperation between the student scientific communities of Sechenov University and Cambridge University. It demonstrates the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in Biomedical Sciences between Russia and the UK. 


Last year Sechenov University hosted Cambridge-Sechenov Summer School in Urologic Oncology & Urogenital Reconstructive Surgery-2017. Within 1 year Cambridge-Sechenov Summer School has  been transformed into the largest educational project and has become an example of effective educational and scientific exchange between Sechenov University and Cambridge University. 

This year the Summer School has been significantly transformed. For instance, it has doubled the number of participants. They represent not only the University of Cambridge, but also students from Oxford University and King's College. From the Russian side the participants are the students of Sechenov University and Moscow State University as well. Moreover, the practical part of the School has been also expanded. 

During the Coloproctology course the students will be able to study up-to-date information regarding pathogenesis, screening, early diagnosis, methods of treatment Colorectal Cancer; and to expand knowledge of Coloproctology and Pelvic Surgery Anatomy. Moreover, the School participants will be able to supervise robotic and laparoscopic rectal resection, and visit the 3D- surgery room. All participants will be able to master the surgical technique of intestinal suture assisted by the leading specialists of the Clinic. Before the School closure, the students will be able to carry out laparoscopic resection of the rectum using a trial model.  

Within the Urology Course the participants will be albe to study modern approaches to diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, kidney cancer and urethral stricture disease. The students will also have an opportunity to study best practices in implementation of robotic prostatectomy, laparoscopic kidney resection and buccal urethroplasty. At the end of the School the attendees will have a unique opportunity to conduct laparoscopic nephrectomy and to gain such experience that is not available to all professional surgeons.  Within 2 weeks the Summer School participants will get priceless clinical, educational and scientific experience, which brings together the world's best practices.
