Introduction: This study examined the dynamics of 24-h electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring parameters (Holter monitoring) in patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD) before and after conservative or surgical treatment of patients with voiding and storage lower urinary tract symptoms (LTS) due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Methods: A total of eighty-three 57 to 81-year-old (mean age 70.4 ± 5.75 years) patients with LUTS/BPH and accompanying IHD were examined and treated at the Institute of Urology and Human Reproductive Health and Clinic of Cardiology of Sechenov University. All patients received recommended cardiac therapy at least 6 months before inclusion in the study. Results: Our study demonstrated that there is correlation between voiding and storage LUTS/BPH and Holter-detected cardiac impairments in patients with IHD/BPH. These data make it possible to consider LUTS/BPH (voiding and storage) as a factor in the additional functional and psychological load on the activity of patients with ischemic heart disease. Improvement of voiding and storage LUTS due to BPH and objective parameters of urination (Qmax) in patients treated with alpha-1 adrenoceptor blocker tamsulosin correlated with improvement of 24-h ECG monitoring parameters (Holter monitoring) in 72% of patients. Improvement of 24-h ECG monitoring parameters (Holter monitoring) 1 month after transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) in IHD/BPH patients and indications for surgical treatment was observed in 65.7%. Negative dynamics of the Holter-based ECG was not registered in patients who were operated on. Conclusion: Holter monitoring helps to identify groups of patients in whom urinary impairments caused by prostatic hyperplasia negatively affect the course of IHD. Restored urination (either conservatively or operatively) in patients with BPH in 72% of cases decreased the number of fits of angina, thus influencing favourably the course of IHD. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd Objective: Polymorphous adenocarcinoma of salivary gland (PAC) is rare. Despite being described as a low risk histology, some patients develop regional and distant metastasis. More aggressive behavior has been attributed to a PAC subcategory called cribriform adenocarcinoma of minor salivary glands (CAMSG). We examined oncological outcomes of PAC. Patients and methods: Fifty-seven patients with PAC were identified from an institutional database of 884 patients surgically treated for salivary gland malignancies from 1985 to 2015. Detailed histopathological analysis was performed. Survival outcomes were calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Factors predictive of recurrence were identified using the Cox proportional hazard method. Results: Fifty-four (95%) had tumors of minor salivary gland origin; the most frequent location was the oral cavity in 41 (76%), specifically the hard palate in 32 (55%). Forty-six patients (81%) were clinical T1-T2; 3 (5%) had a clinically positive neck. Thirty-two patients (56%) were classified as PAC and 14 (25%) as CAMSG. Forty-four patients (77%) had surgery alone; 13 (23%) had surgery and postoperative radiotherapy. The 5- and 10-year overall survival and disease-specific survival were 88% and 79% and 98% and 94%, respectively (median follow up 84 [1–159] months); 5- and 10-year recurrence-free survival were 93% and 88%, respectively. Univariate analysis showed male sex, III/IV stage, and CASMG variant had increased incidence of recurrence but were not statistically significant. Conclusion: PAC of the salivary glands is an indolent disease with good survival outcomes. Recurrence is uncommon and tends to occur late. Long-term follow-up is indicated in patients with this disease.

© 2019 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. Anorexia nervosa (AN) is an eating disorder often occurring in adolescence. AN has one of the highest mortality rates amongst psychiatric illnesses and is associated with medical complications and high risk for psychiatric comorbidities, persisting after treatment. Remission rates range from 23% to 33%. Moreover, weight recovery does not necessarily reflect cognitive recovery. This issue is of particular interest in adolescence, characterized by progressive changes in brain structure and functional circuitries, and fast cognitive development. We reviewed existing literature on fMRI studies in adolescents diagnosed with AN, following PRISMA guidelines. Eligible studies had to: (1) be written in English; (2) include only adolescent participants; and (3) use block-design fMRI. We propose a pathogenic model based on normal and AN-related neural and cognitive maturation during adolescence. We propose that underweight and delayed puberty—caused by genetic, environmental, and neurobehavioral factors—can affect brain and cognitive development and lead to impaired cognitive flexibility, which in turn sustains the perpetuation of aberrant behaviors in a vicious cycle. Moreover, greater punishment sensitivity causes a shift toward punishment-based learning, leading to greater anxiety and ultimately to excessive reappraisal over emotions. Treatments combining physiological and neurobehavioral rationales must be adopted to improve outcomes and prevent relapses.

© 2019, Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers 2019. The purpose of our work was to study late cardiac complications after treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) in children and adolescents. Methods: Sixty-seven patients were examined in the long term (>5 years) after chemoradiotherapy for HL according to two different programs of treatment (groups I and II). Mean total doses of radiotherapy (RT) to the mediastinum were 37.2 and 28.9 Gy, respectively. The status of the heart was assessed at the mean age of 22.7 years with electrocardiography (ECG) and echocardiography (EchoCG). Mean terms of follow-up were 16.4 and 9.5 years for group I and group II, respectively. Results: Incidence of ECG changes was equal between the groups (88% and 90%). The prevalence of signs of valvular calcifications and fibrosis was 70.9% after mediastinal doses ≥30 Gy, and 16.6% after lower doses (p = 0.002). Those changes led to considerable valvular dysfunction in four patients. EchoCG signs of pulmonary hypertension were seen in 33.3% patients of group I versus 4.8% in group II (p = 0.047). Pericardial effusion was observed in 7.4% and 5.1%, respectively (p = 1.0). Left ventricular ejection fraction decreased slightly only in two patients (one in each group). Conclusions: The RT mediastinal dose level is the important risk factor of late heart complications. Nevertheless, the differences in the rate and severity of those complications between the groups should be viewed with caution because of differences in the age at baseline and in follow-up terms. The survivors of HL should undergo life-long regular examinations of the heart status.

Recently, a new, wearable bladder sensor became available, the SENS-U Bladder Sensor. The SENS-U is a small, wireless ultrasonic sensor, which continuously monitors the bladder filling and provides a personalized notification when it is time to go to the toilet. In this study, the aim was to examine the performance of the SENS-U as a full-bladder–based notification system in children during daily life activities. Patients and methods: In this pilot study, children (6–16 years) who were admitted for an inpatient bladder training were included. Parallel to one training day, the child would wear the SENS-U to estimate the bladder filling and it informed the child when the bladder was almost full. When the child received a full-bladder notification, the child was taught to inform the urotherapist/researcher, in order to determine the level of response. Results: Fifteen patients (boys/girls: 7/8; mean age: 11.5 ± 1.7 years) were included. Based on a personalized volume-based threshold, the SENS-U notified these children of a full bladder with a median notification rate of 92.9%. In the remaining cases, children voided before the threshold was reached (e.g. defecation). Children responded positively to the notification of the SENS-U, resulting in a median level of response equal to 100%. Conclusion: The SENS-U was able to monitor the natural bladder filling accurately during activities of daily living and provided a personalized notification to the children when it was almost time to go to the toilet. Future research will focus on investigating the efficacy of the SENS-U compared to daily clinical practices.[Figure presented]

© 2018 by the authors. Computer-aided design (CAD) and additive manufacturing (AM) have shown promise in facilitating the fabrication of custom trays. Due to the clinical requirements, custom tray materials should achieve good bonding to the impression/adhesive systems. This study evaluated the retention of three fused deposition modeling (FDM) custom tray materials to a silicone impression/adhesive system before and after gritblasting (GB) by peel-off test. CAD-designed experimental test blocks were printed by FDM using acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polyethylene terephthalate glycol copolyester (PETG), and high impact polystyrene (HIPS), and the reference test blocks were made of a conventional light-curing resin (n = 11). Before and after GB, the surface topography of all tray materials was analysed, and the maximum strength of the test block peeled off from a silicone impression/adhesive system was measured. After GB, the arithmetic mean height (Sa) and the valley fluid retention index (Svi) of the four material groups declined (p < 0.05). The peel-off strength of each of the four material groups significantly decreased by GB (p < 0.05), but no statistical difference could be found among them before or after GB. In all peel-off tests, adhesive failure occurred at the adhesive-impression material interface. The results indicated ABS, HIPS, and PETG could provide sufficient adhesion to the adhesive as the conventional light-curing resin, and GB could reduce the roughness generated by FDM and weaken the bonding between the adhesive and the silicone impression.

© 2018 by the authors. Objectives: Resin-modified glass ionomer cements (RMGIC) are considered excellent restorative materials with unique therapeutic and anti-cariogenic activity. However, concerns exist regarding the use of polyacrylic acid as a dentine conditioner as it may influence the bonding performance of RMGIC. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different protocols for cycling mechanical stress on the bond durability and interfacial ultramorphology of a modern RMGIC applied to dentine pre-treated with/without polyacrylic acid conditioner (PAA). Methods: The RMGIC was applied onto human dentine specimens prepared with silicon-carbide (SiC) abrasive paper with or without the use of a PAA conditioner. The specimens were immersed in deionised water for 24 h then divided in 3 groups. The first group was cut into matchsticks (crosssectional area of 0.9 mm2) and tested immediately for microtensile bond strength (MTBS). The second was first subjected to load cycling (250,000 cycles; 3 Hz; 70 N) and then cut into matchsticks and tested for MTBS. The third group was subjected to load cycling (250,000 cycles; 3 Hz; 70 N), cut into matchsticks, and then immersed for 8 months storage in artificial saliva (AS); these were finally tested for MTBS. The results were analysed statistically using two-way ANOVA and the Student- Newman-Keuls test (α = 0.05). Fractographic analysis was performed using FE-SEM, while further RMCGIC-bonded dentine specimens were aged as previously described and used for interfacial ultramorphology characterisation (dye nanoleakage) using confocal microscopy. Results: The RMGIC applied onto dentine that received no pre-treatment (10% PAA gel) showed no significant reduction in MTBS after load cycling followed by 8 months of storage in AS (p > 0.05). The RMGIC- dentine interface created in PAA-conditioned SiC-abraded dentine specimens showed no sign of degradation, but with porosities within the bonding interface both after load cycling and after 8 months of storage in AS. Conversely, the RMGIC-dentine interface of the specimens with no PAA pre-treatment showed no sign of porosity within the interface after any of the aging protocols, although some bonded-dentine interfaces presented cohesive cracks within the cement after prolonged AS storage. However, the specimens of this group showed no significant reduction in bond strength (p < 0.05) after 8 months of storage in AS or load cycling (p > 0.05). After prolonged AS storage, the bond strength value attained in RMGIC-dentine specimens created in PAA pretreated dentine were significantly higher than those observed in the specimens created with no PAA pre-treatment in dentine. Conclusions: PAA conditioning of dentine prior to application of RMGIC induces no substantial effect on the bond strength after short-term storage, but its use may increase the risk of collagen degradation at the bonding interface after prolonged aging. Modern RMGIC applied without PAA dentine pre-treatment may have greater therapeutic synergy with saliva during cycle occlusal load, thereby enhancing the remineralisation and protection of the bonding interface.

Disc herniation with radiculopathy is a common cause of severe back pain leading to significant disability and a decrease in patients’ quality of life. The authors report a case of 38-year-old female patient with radiculopathy of the first sacral root due to a large (11 mm) sequestered disc herniation between the fifth lumbar and the first sacral vertebrae. Conservative treatment with flu-oroscopically-guided epidural steroid injection provided a significant clinical improvement, the patient was able to return to normal daily and professional activity in a short time. MRI in 9 months showed the regression of disc herniation. Possible predictors and timing of disc herniation regression are discussed, as well as the proposed mechanisms, the main one of which is considered to be immune-mediated lysis.

© 2018, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. Abstract: An approach for quick and efficient production of polyclonal antibodies to the target antigen, alpha-synuclein, has been proposed. Two methods have been employed to purify specific rabbit polyclonal antibodies against recombinant human alpha-synuclein, produced by subcutaneous immunization with complete Freund’s adjuvant. It was shown that purification on CNBr-activated Sepharose with immobilized alpha-synuclein resulted in antibody preparation with rabbit serum histidine-rich glycoprotein as a contaminant. Two-stage antibody purification procedure first on Sepharose with immobilized protein G, and then on alpha-synuclein immobilized column helps to avoid contamination and to obtain homogenous antibody preparation. Antibodies recognize different conformations of alpha-synuclein and can be used in a variety of immunochemical approaches, including immunocytochemistry.

An experimental study was performed on Wistar rats with the purpose of histological evaluation of the surgical wounds state and the processes of their healing using a conventional surgical scalpel and three radio wave devices with different operating frequencies (2.2 MHz, 2.64 MHz, 3.8 MHz). It has been established that in animals with wounds inflicted by the radio-wave at the highestworking frequency, there were statistically significant differences both in terms and in the mechanisms of wound healing. These benefits were in the absence of a blood clot in the wound after the incision, also in minimal necrosis of the operating wound and adjacent tissues, in the absence of leukocyte infiltration in the wound; early (from 3 days) reparation and epithelialization of tissues. These features contributed to a reduction in the timing of wound healing and the absence of scar formation.

Abstract: Osteoarthritis (OA), the most common form of arthritis, is characterized by inflammation of joints and cartilage degradation leading to disability, discomfort, severe pain, inflammation, and stiffness of the joint. It has been shown that adenosine, a purine nucleoside composed of adenine attached to ribofuranose, is enzymatically produced by the human synovium. However, the functional significance of adenosine signaling in homeostasis and pathology of synovial joints remains unclear. Adenosine acts through four cell surface receptors, i.e., A1, A2A, A2B, and A3, and here, we have systematically analyzed mice with a deficiency for A3 receptor as well as pharmacological modulations of this receptor with specific analogs. The data show that adenosine receptor signaling plays an essential role in downregulating catabolic mechanisms resulting in prevention of cartilage degeneration. Ablation of A3 resulted in development of OA in aged mice. Mechanistically, A3 signaling inhibited cellular catabolic processes in chondrocytes including downregulation of Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CaMKII), an enzyme that promotes matrix degradation and inflammation, as well as Runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2). Additionally, selective A3 agonists protected chondrocytes from cell apoptosis caused by pro-inflammatory cytokines or hypo-osmotic stress. These novel data illuminate the protective role of A3, which is mediated via inhibition of intracellular CaMKII kinase and RUNX2 transcription factor, the two major pro-catabolic regulators in articular cartilage. Key messages: Adenosine receptor A3 (A3) knockout results in progressive loss of articular cartilage in vivo.Ablation of A3 results in activation of matrix degradation and cartilage hypertrophy.A3 agonists downregulate RUNX2 and CaMKII expression in osteoarthritic human articular chondrocytes.A3 prevents articular cartilage matrix degradation induced by inflammation and osmotic fluctuations.A3 agonist inhibits proteolytic activity of cartilage-degrading enzymes.

Abstract: The paper reports the first study of genetic diversity of the domestic yak in the Sayan-Altai region of Russia (Altai and Tuva) and Mongolia (Khuvsgul and Gobi) on the basis of the polymorphism analysis of the mtDNA D-loop hypervariable region. It has been demonstrated that, among all the studied populations, Tuva yaks are characterized by the highest haplotype diversity. Four new haplotypes, A4, A13, D9, and E3, have been described for the first time. The analysis of the contribution of maternal genetic component to the yak intrabreed and interbreed mtDNA diversity revealed two large clades. For the first time, comparative analysis of genetic structure of the Russian yak populations was carried out using 15 microsatellite loci. Low genetic difference between the populations was revealed, which may apparently be accounted for by the specific features of farm breeding, in particular, by animal exchange between the adjacent territories of the Sayan-Altai region.

© 2018, Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. Background: Laparoscopic D3 anterior posterior extended mesenterectomy (D3APEM) in right colectomy has received increased attention. The aim of this study is to prove feasibility, systemize technical accomplishment, and provide short-term outcomes data. Methods: From July 2013 to February 2017, 18 patients with adenocarcinoma in the right colon underwent right colectomy with laparoscopic D3APEM, including lymph nodes anterior and posterior to the superior mesenteric vessels. A reconstructed three-dimensional anatomy map derived from the staging computed tomography was used as a road map at surgery. The procedure was systematized into seven operative steps: Step 1, trocar placement and inspection; Step 2, release of the transverse colon; Step 3, identification of the terminal mesenteric vessels; Step 4, release of the anterior flap; Step 5, division of the transverse mesocolon; Step 6, release of the posterior flap; and Step 7, anastomosis and specimen removal. Patient disposition and variations regarding vascular anatomy and ability to expose consequentially may necessitate a variation in the sequence of the steps. Results: A total of 7 (39%) cases were converted, 3 due to bleeding and 4 due to challenging dissection. Median operative time and blood loss were 276 minutes (168-439 minutes) and 200 mL (< 50-1300 mL), respectively. Postoperative complications occurred in 6 (33%), including 2 (11%) major complication requiring reoperation. Median hospital stay was 5 days (3-13 days). R0 resection was achieved in all cases. Median number of the lymph nodes harvested was 40 (25-86), including 11.5 (4-35) in the D3 volume. Six patients (33%) had positive nodes, 3 of them affecting the D3 zone, including 1 case of a skip metastasis. There was no mortality, and at present all the patients are alive. One patient developed distant lymph node metastases. Conclusion: Laparoscopic right colectomy with D3APEM is feasible, associated with acceptable morbidity and fast recovery; now in readiness for introduction in specialized colorectal institutions.

Aiming to explore elevated temperatures as a tool for miniaturization of biodegradable polymer multilayer capsules, assembled on spherical vaterite micron- and submicron-sized particles, we subject the shells composed of dextran sulfate (DS) and poly-L-arginine (Parg) to a heat treatment. Changes of the capsule size are studied at various temperatures and ionic strengths of the continuous phase. Unlike some synthetic polymer multilayer shells (their response to heat treatment depends on the number of layers and their arrangement), the biodegradable Parg/DS capsules exhibit size reduction and profound compaction regardless of their initial size, number of polymer layers and polymer layer sequence. The capsule response to heat is stable at ionic strengths of the continuous phase not exceeding 0.1 M NaCl.

© 2018 Radboud University Medical Center Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is highly heritable and the most common neurodevelopmental disorder in childhood. In recent decades, it has been appreciated that in a substantial number of cases the disorder does not remit in puberty, but persists into adulthood. Both in childhood and adulthood, ADHD is characterised by substantial comorbidity including substance use, depression, anxiety, and accidents. However, course and symptoms of the disorder and the comorbidities may fluctuate and change over time, and even age of onset in childhood has recently been questioned. Available evidence to date is poor and largely inconsistent with regard to the predictors of persistence versus remittance. Likewise, the development of comorbid disorders cannot be foreseen early on, hampering preventive measures. These facts call for a lifespan perspective on ADHD from childhood to old age. In this selective review, we summarise current knowledge of the long-term course of ADHD, with an emphasis on clinical symptom and cognitive trajectories, treatment effects over the lifespan, and the development of comorbidities. Also, we summarise current knowledge and important unresolved issues on biological factors underlying different ADHD trajectories. We conclude that a severe lack of knowledge on lifespan aspects in ADHD still exists for nearly every aspect reviewed. We encourage large-scale research efforts to overcome those knowledge gaps through appropriately granular longitudinal studies.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to distinguish different forms of orbital involvement in granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) and to compare their clinical course and outcomes. Methods: Two hundred twenty-six consecutive patients with GPA were retrospectively studied. All patients fulfilled the classification criteria of American College of Rheumatology; diagnosis of localized GPA was established according to Chapel Hill Consensus. Of those, 74 patients with orbital disease were enrolled into further investigation of different forms of orbital disease. Results: Overall ocular involvement was diagnosed in 50% (113/226) of patients; in 5.3% (12/226), inflammatory eye disease resulted in permanent visual loss. Most common ophthalmic manifestations were orbital masses, episcleritis/conjunctivitis, and scleritis (74/226, 32/226, and 12/226, respectively). Seventy-four patients with orbital involvement were divided into three groups: those with orbital mass without primary lacrimal gland involvement (1st group, 45 patients), those with lacrimal gland involvement (2nd group, 26 patients), and those with extraocular myositis (3rd group, 3 patients). Symptoms such as orbital pain, decreased vision, double vision, red eye, scleritis, orbital wall destruction, primary gaze strabismus, and ocular motility restriction were significantly more common in the 1st group. Peripheral ulcerative keratitis (PUK) was present in the 1st group only. Patients of the 1st group suffered from visual loss, double vision, primary gaze strabismus, and ocular motility restriction significantly more often. Eleven of them developed visual loss; 5 of them underwent enucleation, whereas in the group of patients with dacryoadenitis, only 1 patient had BCVA less than 0.3. Conclusions: Three types of orbital disease in GPA were proposed: orbital mass without primary lacrimal gland involvement, dacryoadenitis, and extraocular myositis. Patients with orbital mass without lacrimal gland involvement are characterized with a higher rate of systemic disease, severe clinical course not uncommonly associated with other ophthalmic manifestations (necrotizing scleritis, PUK, orbital walls destruction), relatively unfavorable outcome with high level of morbidity (optic nerve atrophy, anophthalmos, strabismus), and higher rate of recurrences. Dacryoadenitis in GPA showed to be not severe manifestation with favorable prognosis.

An expert analysis of lectures and reports at the XIX Congress of the European Union of School and University Medicine and Health (Belgium, Leuven, 2017) presents issues of school and university medicine: modern approaches to assessment of children’s health; ensuring equal access of all children, adolescents and youth to medical care during the period of education in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child, regardless of socioeconomic status, ethnicity and cultural level; the effectiveness of health services, friendly to students, assessment of medical care for students quality; the role of parents in organizing medical care for students; the role of the media in shaping the identity of children in the process of growth and development. The concept of «positive health» focuses on positive and healthy aspects, and not only on medical treatment. The main elements of «positive health» include: physical functioning, daily routine, mental health, social activity, intentions, quality of life. In Europe prevails a program approach to prevention based on targeted work with relevant groups of children and adolescents. There is a need for assessing the impact of environmental factors, access to care and education for children with special needs, providing preventive care for vulnerable children, infants and their families, promoting healthy behavior among students, special approaches to providing mental health to students through available health services and various programs, incl. based on the welfare of children and interventions in the early stages of emotional problems considering risk factors that can be identified in educational institutions. Modern main directions of research in the field of health protection and promotion of students in educational organizations are due to large-scale changes in the environment (pronounced urbanization), the new way of life and quality of life for children and adolescents, their life conditions in a rapidly changing world combined with unfavorable trends in health and development indicators of the growing up generation of Russians.

© 2018 Leonie Korn et al. The weakened heart is supported by a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) to supply the heart muscle with oxygenated blood. In case the heart muscle recovers during LVAD therapy, the patient has to be weaned from the device. To date, there is no adequate method to detect heart muscle recovery in LVAD therapy. In order to establish a novel method based on the measurement of electric conductivity, this study presents a silicone model of a ventricle mock-up to simulate the electrical properties of cardiac muscle tissue. Previously, it has been shown that the electrical properties of myocardial tissue change during ischemia, so that these changes are a possible estimate for measuring the condition of myocardial tissue. To this purpose, this study presents a casting process for a ventricle model and describes the materials used to imitate the electrical properties of the heart muscle to obtain conductive material. Initial results showed that the higher the carbon concentration in the silicone, the higher the conductivity of the silicone samples. The measurements were performed at different frequencies and the samples were analyzed for homogenization.

© 2018 Elsevier Masson SAS We performed a mesocosm experiment with rice paddy soils of three different soil types which were collected in the three major regions of rice production in Russia: Krasnodarsky Krai, the Republic of Kalmykia and Primorsky Krai. We used the earthworm species Eisenia fetida (Savigny 1826), introduced at different densities (0, 2, 4 and 6 individuals per mesocosm with an area of 69.4 cm2 and a soil column height of approximately 10 cm) to assess rice straw decomposition and carbon stabilization in the three soil types. After 20 days of the experiment, straw amendment consistently increased CO2 release from all three soil types. The effect was highest in the soil of Krasnodarsky Krai after a straw amendment was combined with 4 earthworms per mesocosm. The effect of earthworms on CH4 release remained soil type specific but did not demonstrate any synergy with the straw amendment. We also recorded the highest enrichment of soil with carbon from the rice straw when compared with the control mesocosms without straw amendment (the difference was 31.5 mg g−1 soil dwt) under the treatment with four earthworms, and this result was independent of soil type. We conclude that the practice of rice straw reincorporation with the amendment of a certain number of earthworms provides a potentially viable way to recycle crop residue.
